Nach den Wanderungen verbrachte ich erstmal einen ruhigen Tag zurück im Backpackers in Takaka. Kurz vor dem Mittag habe ich mir die Grove Scenic Reserve nahe Takaka angeschaut und am Nachmittag fuhr ich hoch ins Cobb-Valley zum Stausee. Für eine Wanderung war mir das Wetter aber zu nass und zu kalt.
Eigentlich war mein Plan Takaka am nächsten Tag in Richtung Farewell Spit zu verlassen und die Nacht irgendwo in der Gegend von Westhaven zu verbringen. Nachdem sich zum stürmischen Wind auch noch Hagel gesellte, brach ich die Übung ab und entschied mich für eine weitere Nacht in Takaka.
Auf dem Weg nach Nelson am nächsten Tag besuchte ich die Ngarua Höhle. Nach einer Nacht im bisher langweiligsten Backpackers in Nelson fuhr ich weiter in die Marlborough Sounds. Eigentlich hatte ich vor über Nacht auf dem DOC Camping Butchers Flat zu bleiben. Die Anzahl Sandflies hat mich aber schnell dazu bewogen meine Pläne zu ändern.
So verbrachte ich die Nacht auf einem anderen DOC Camping nahe Picton. Übers Wochenende war Sturm und Regen angekündigt, ich entschied mich im Backpackers in Nelson zu bleiben bis Montag Morgen meine Fähre nach Wellington abfährt.
I got back to Takaka after finishing the Abel Tasman Walk and spent a quiet day there. I visited Grove Scenic Reserve in the morning and drove up Cobb Valley in the afternoon. Since it was freezing cold up there I didn’t feel like hiking.
I left Takaka towards Farewell Spit the next morning. My plan was to visit Farewell Spit and Wharariki Beach, then drive to Westhaven and spend my night somewhere out there. Unfortunately it was a pretty wet and stormy day. After the rain turned into hail I decided to drive back to Takaka and spend another night there.
I visited Ngarua Cave the following day on my way to Nelson. I spent the night in what turned out to be the most boring backpackers ever.
I planned to leave Nelson and spend the night on the DOC campground Butchers Flat. Only minutes after my arrival millions of sandflies convinced me to do otherwise.
I finally found a nice spot on an other DOC campground close to Nelson. Due to the quite miserable forecast (storm & rain over the weekend) I decided to stay in the backpackers in Picton till monday when my ferry was supposed to leave at 10.45.
